The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who is responsible and accountable for providing quality patient care within a delivery model in accordance with the philosophy, policies and standards of care of the Royal Victoria Hospital, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) and all relevant legislation.

Job Qualifications:


  • Current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS required
  • Current NRP required
  • Perinatal assessment course required
  • ECG interpretation preferred
  • Neonatal Intensive care program certificate required
  • Advanced education in breast feeding –i.e. certificate of current education session required.
  • Paediatric assessment course an asset


  • Current progressive NICU experience in a level 2C or greater
  • Competencies:
  • Ability to apply the skill and knowledge of their qualifications to their clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated willingness to expand knowledge to include care of paediatric patient population.


  • Sound problem solving, communication (oral and written), conflict resolution and decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer literacy in current software applications
  • Demonstrated commitment to the professional growth and development of self and others
  • Demonstrated commitment to the concepts of Continuous Quality Improvement and Customer Service


  • Ability to learn about, from and with other members of the patient care team to foster a strong interprofessional model of care.
