Job Description

The Director of Care is responsible for the quality of clinical care provided to residents by the nursing staff.  He/she leads and directs the clinical team to ensure that services and care are provided in conformance with all legislative, regulatory, organizational, accreditation and sponsor requirements.  He/she guides and works collaboratively with the inter-professional team, residents, and families regarding resident-centred care and related issues.   The Director of Care participates as a management team member to ensure the establishment and maintenance of a work environment conducive to staff/team development and a home environment conducive to resident comfort, safety and wellbeing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • RN Diploma or Degree with current CNO Registration

  • at least three years of experience in a management/supervisory role in a Long Term Care environment

  • solid clinical background and expertise with at least five years of front-line nursing experience in a long term care (preferably) or hospital setting (including at least one year of RN experience in the long term care sector)

  • extensive knowledge of the Long Term Care Homes Act and regulations

  • proven ability to work collaboratively and serve a leadership/mentorship role in an interdisciplinary team environment

  • proven ability to facilitate and manage change, and to be flexible, innovative and creative

  • excellent communications skills for interaction with residents, families, staff, the MOHLTC, community partners and the general public

  • knowledge of RAI/MDS and Nursing Restorative processes, programming and coding is an sset
