Professional Practice Lead



Job Description

CARE Centre for Internationally Educated Nurses is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping internationally educated nurses become licensed to practice in Ontario. 

We are currently seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual with a strong client service orientation for the Professional Practice Lead.  This is a part time position.



  • Remain current on College of Nurses on Ontario (CNO) nursing guidelines and policies and provide accurate interpretation and effective support to members of the Case Management team on nursing guidelines and policies
  • Develop and implement the orientation program for new case management and program staff
  • Actively liaise with partners organizations, including academic and training institutions and Nursing regulatory bodies and associations, to facilitate communication, advocate and address academic and practice barriers for internationally educated nurses
  • Develop and regularly evaluate Nursing Readiness Assessments (NRA)
  • Provide coaching and consultation to members of the Case Management team on administering NRA, interpreting NRA results, providing Post Exam Feedback and developing effective learning plans that addresses NRA results for clients
  • Work with Program Manager to address ongoing development/learning needs at the Case Management team level and at the individual Case Manager’s level
  • Provide relief/back up support to individual Case Managers in carrying out the NRA and post exam feedback, as required
  • Conduct Competency Assessment Supplement Workshops for Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs)
  • Lead or participate in the planning, development and evaluation of programs/initiatives responsive to evolving needs of clients


  • Prepare report and documentation, e.g. attendance report and course evaluations, as required
  • Represent CARE at conferences, educational institutions, regulatory meetings, and assist in networking with other potential partner organizations as appropriate

  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Education or related discipline and registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario is required
  • Recent clinical nursing and teaching experience required, with minimum  3 years  of experience in a Nurse Educator role, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certificate in Adult education and experience in case management is an asset
  • Expert knowledge of best practices in nursing
  • Good understanding of current CNO registration requirements, Canadian academic and healthcare system, educational institutions, national examinations and barriers facing IEN’s
  • Good understanding of principles of adult education, individual learning styles and test taking strategies
  • Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent oral/written communication and public presentation skills
  • Excellent counseling, group facilitation and moderation skills
  • Strong leadership and partnership building skills
  • Cross cultural competency and experience working with people from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds
  • Computer proficiency, including good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products


Working Condition:


Flexibility within program operating hours

Occasional travel to other locations as necessary
